In the realm of survival, the primary focus is always shelter – staying covered and protected is the top priority. However, we’ll delve into that topic later. For now, let’s shift our attention to securing water, a resource that proves to be your most valuable asset. Not only is it essential for drinking, a universal need, but it also serves as a crucial tool. But I digress; let’s concentrate on the aspect of drinking water for now.

There are numerous ways to find, filter, and purify water to make it suitable for consumption. Let’s keep it simple for this example by setting up a gravity-fed filtration system. Once you locate a water source, your first task is to ensure that solid impurities are effectively filtered out – after all, no one wants to drink twigs or leaves. To start, find a suitable container. Opting for a coffee can is a good choice as they are readily available, and the bigger, the better. While this may suffice for now, it’s essential to keep innovating, as there’s always something better to use. This approach increases the chances of long-term safety, safety you’ve provided for yourself.
So, with our container in hand, we only need two ingredients: sand and charcoal. Puncture a smaller hole, or several holes, in the bottom of the coffee can to create an exit point for the filtered water. Once you’ve obtained both ingredients, use them in your container. Don’t just fill the can randomly; stagger the two in layers. Start with about a two-inch layer of sand at the very bottom, followed by a layer of charcoal (finer is better), and repeat. This method effectively filters your water after three layers of each. As you find a larger container, you can always add more layers for double safety.
After pouring water into the filter and using another container to catch the filtered water, you’re almost done. The final step is purification.
Stay prepared, and always watch your six.

The purification process is straightforward. Heat the water for a minimum of twenty minutes. Bring to a boil to ensure any harmful bacteria are killed off. After boiling, cool it off, and you’ve completed the first step to make life a little easier for yourself and those around you
